Press Release – Solactive announces new collaboration with FinTech Platform C8 Technologies

07 April 2020

Innovation in passive investing evolves constantly, step by step eclipsing traditional business models and ways to trade financial capital. A new player, financial technology platform C8 Technologies, challenges the status quo of the conventional index provider – product provider – asset owner flow-diagram enabling asset owners to invest directly in sophisticated strategies developed by index providers. Starting this April, a wide range of Solactive benchmark indices will be made available on C8 Technologies’ platform. Different kinds of investors such as asset owners, asset managers and hedge funds can all implement them in their portfolios.

With C8 Technologies’ approach, investors gain the opportunity to customize their portfolio without bearing the requirement to allocate their capital to external parties. The platform’s approach accounts for a greater degree of transparency and easier customization of investors’ portfolios compared to the traditional way of handing capital to investment managers or product providers. Investors are able to analyse, select and combine indices on C8 Studio, an innovative and powerful web-based platform. With Solactive and C8 Technologies joining forces, the two industry disruptors reinvent passive investing.

“Since Solactive’s inception, it is on our corporate DNA to find like-minded companions in our journey to disrupt the financial industry,“ comments Steffen Scheuble, CEO of Solactive. “C8 Technologies’ approach puts the asset owner first, adding transparency and slimming down the investment process. We are excited to enable investors trading on Solactive indices reliably and straightforwardly.”
The new collaboration marks yet another logical step in Solactive’s global strategic positioning. The company grew significantly in recent years and expanded its service and distribution network massively. With the opportunity to trade Solactive indices on their account, C8 Technologies fulfils the request of many professional investors. The first Solactive indices made tradable on C8 Technologies’ platform are taken from Solactive Global Benchmark Series indices that includes over 1.600 stocks from Developed Countries with a range of selective ESG indices to follow shortly after.

“We are delighted that Solactive has joined the C8 platform, bringing their wide range of investor-focused Indices,” says Mattias Eriksson, CEO of C8 Technologies. “The C8 platform enables an asset owner or manager to trade the underlying assets of an Index and, by so doing, keep full control of their capital. In particular, by offering full transparency of the underlying assets, the platform will combine perfectly with Solactive’s strong footprint in Sustainable solutions.”

Thoughts From The Divide: Identifying Ducks

While we may have missed getting out our Thoughts From The Divide year-in-review piece before the new year (mea maxima culpa), we did manage to spend some time going through our “best of” and “greatest hits” in anticipation of the changing of the calendar. As usual, there were some repeated themes and tropes, but at the highest level, what struck us was that last year seemed very much governed by the timeless question from the underrated philosopher of science, Whitney Houston: “How will I know?” (closely followed by her observation that “crack is whack”) Read more →

Thoughts From The Divide: Not Too Hot, Not Too Cold

BY JON WEBB
Now that the “giant global margin call” appears to have run its course, global equity markets were free to celebrate successfully navigating the potential banana skin that was US inflation data (both CPI and PPI). Inflation is tamed (at least till next month) with only the irritating exception of the shelter components (again!) and those pesky insurance premiums. Turns out that inflation has a long tail: higher auto prices beget higher insurance premiums, and that’s without considering the impact of recent hail storms. That said perhaps we should count our blessings. Both headline CPI and PPI beat (i.e., were lower than) the consensus by 0.1%, which led some economists to point to a core PCE deflator figure below the Fed’s 2% target: good enough for stocks to start celebrating a September rate cut.
